BURLINGTON, Vt. — Krysten Mayers scored two goals 26 seconds apart late in the first half Sunday and Cornell went on to a 2-0 victory against the University of Maine on the second day of the Catamount Field Hockey Classic.

Mayers scored at 25:11, collecting a rebound off a blocked shot from Marisa Siergiej and beating Maine goalie Emma Cochran to the far post. Just 26 seconds later, Mayers sped toward the Maine goal on a breakaway and slipped the ball past Cochran as the keeper charged off her line.

Cochran made one save and allowed two goals in 35 minutes before giving way to Emily Corbett at the half. Corbett also finished with one save for Maine (7-2). Mackenzie Gagliardi made two saves for the Big Red (4-2).

BOWDOIN 6, WILLIAMS 0: Rachel Kennedy had three goals and an assist, and Kimmy Ganong added two goals as the second-ranked Polar Bears (5-0, 4-0 NESCAC) defeated the Ephs (5-1, 2-1) at Brunswick.

Ganong scored a tipped-in goal at 2:37, deflecting inside the left post a Kelsey Mullaney shot that Kim Kahnweiler set up with a stick stop following the insert on a penalty corner. Kennedy followed with a pair of late goals for a 3-0 lead at the half.

COLBY 4, CONNECTICUT COLLEGE 3: Megan Fortier and Misha Strage each had a pair of goals, including Fortier’s winner with about four minutes to play, as the Mules (3-2, 1-2 NESCAC) beat Connecticut College (1-4, 0-3) at Waterville.

Fortier also had an assist. Heidi Halsted had all three goals for the Camels.

MEN’S SOCCER

CONNECTICUT COLLEGE 5, COLBY 2: Chris Lockwood had one goal and two assists for Connecticut College (3-2, 1-2 NESCAC), and Mark Leon added two goals against the Mules (2-3, 1-2) at Waterville.

Pat Devlin and Colin Patch had the other goals for the Camels. Lucas Pereira scored for the Mules, who also benefited from an own goal.

WILLIAMS 1, BOWDOIN 0: Gregory Andreou scored with 15:45 remaining to lift Williams (3-2, 2-1 NESCAC) over the Polar Bears (2-2, 1-2) at Brunswick.

Mohammed Rashid played a free kick from about 30 yards out. The ball skipped through defenders to Andreou, who tapped it past oncoming Bowdoin goalie Stevie Van Siclen.

COLBY 1, CONNECTICUT COLLEGE 1: Sam Rizzo stopped 27 shots as the Mules (1-2-1, 0-2-1 NESCAC) and Connecticut College (0-2-2, 0-1-2) tied at Waterville.

BATES 1, MAINE MARITIME ACADEMY 0: Julia Rosen scored off a corner kick from Maggie Coco at 31:20 to give Bates (3-0-1) the victory against the Mariners (1-5) at Castine.

ST. JOSEPH’S 6, NEW ENGLAND COLLEGE 1: Haley DaGraca scored three goals to help the Monks (3-4) past New England College (3-5-1) at Standish.

DaGraca scored three goals in a 5:41 span early in the second half to make it 5-1.

WILLIAMS 2, BOWDOIN 1: Audrey Thomas scored both goals for Williams (5-0, 4-0 NESCAC), including the overtime winner against the Polar Bears (2-2, 1-2) at Brunswick.

FOOTBALL

POLL: Ohio State is No. 1 and Michigan State is No. 2 in The Associated Press, giving the Big Ten the top two teams for the first time since 2006.

The last time the Big Ten held the top two spots in the AP poll was November 2006 when Ohio State and Michigan went into their annual rivalry game Nos. 1 and 2, respectively.
