He was born on Nov. 8, 1932 in Ilion, New York. He was the son of the late Arthur and Florence (Emrich) Hall, and was educated in Ilion Schools.
In 1952, Doug was signed to the Brooklyn Dodgers. He played with them for a short time, before being drafted to the Army of the United States on Nov. 21, 1952. He was honorably discharged after two years of service on Nov. 20, 1954.
After his discharge, Doug played AAA baseball for two years with the Brooklyn Dodgers and semi-pro football for two years.
On Feb. 23, 1957, Doug married the love of his life, Joan Elizabeth Smith. In 1961, Doug went to work at Remington Arms, where he worked until his first retirement in 1986. Doug was recruited by Saco Defense in 1988, and moved to Old Orchard Beach. He worked for six years at Saco Defense, while he and Joan also managed Acorn Self-Service Storage in Westbrook. Together, they managed Acorn for 13 years, before retiring for the final time in 2005.
Doug enjoyed being with his family, and loved summer vacations in Florida and California. He had fun with his trips to casinos and racetracks to play the horses. When he would take Joan and Rose to the casino, they would sit in the back seat and listen to Doug share stories about growing up in Ilion. They were the Three Musketeers.
