OLD ORCHARD BEACH — Marilyn Elizabeth Pickles Aube, 83, of Old Orchard Beach, passed away peacefully on Friday, Sept. 11, 2015.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Emile G. Aube Jr., who died in March of this year.

She was born in Sanford on Feb. 17, 1932, the youngest of four children born to Joseph and Isabelle Pickles. Her siblings, Richard, Dorothy and Irene, as well as her parents, preceded her in death.

Marilyn owned and operated Marilyn’s Yarn Shop on Smithwheel Road in Old Orchard Beach for more than 37 years. She taught hundreds of locals to knit, crochet and rug hook over many years.

Those who knew Marilyn best knew her feisty personality and her attention to detail, and also knew of her long life battle with anxiety and depression. In spite of this debilitating illness, she tutored teenagers in math, geography and other subjects in her home. Several have said she was the reason they graduated high school.

She is survived by: her son, Daniel M. Aube and his wife Barbara and her beloved granddaughter, Katie, all of Old Saybrook, Connecticut; Lindy Butler, a close family friend for more than 65 years, of Sanford; and several nieces, nephews and their children, whom she and Emile talked about all the time and were always ready to help.

Her family extends a very special thank you to Sarah Moore, who provided Marilyn with wonderful care in her last few months at home.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to gather from 9:30-10:45 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 17 at the Old Orchard Beach Funeral Home, 36 Portland Avenue, Old Orchard Beach. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. in St. Margret’s Church, corner of Old Orchard Street and Saco Avenue in Old Orchard Beach. Interment will be in the family lot at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 18, 2015 in St. Peter’s Cemetery, Lewiston.
