TOPSHAM — On the anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, residents and staff in a Topsham retirement community are marking the day with a thank- you breakfast for first responders, including police, fire or ambulance crews. The event takes place Friday, 9-9:30 a.m. at Cadigan Lodge on 54 Governors Way on The Highlands’ campus, where first responders can grab breakfast to-go.
This is the second year The Highlands has done this. Wellness Coordinator Lisa Secone, who is an ambulance driver in her nearby hometown, said it’s a way for this community to give back: “On a day that none of us will ever forget we wanted to find a way to show our appreciation and thanks to the local first responders who help our residents every day. We truly hope they will swing by and enjoy this small token of how much we appreciate them.”
Highlands chefs will also be outside, cooking the breakfasts as the orders are placed, with staff and residents bagging it all up for the officers, firefighters and ambulance crews so they can eat and run, if they have to.
The breakfast-to-go invitation is out to the Topsham and Brunswick Police and Fire departments, as well as crews with Northeast Ambulance.
