A Massachusetts man was arrested Wednesday after allegedly crashing a stolen car while driving drunk in Madison.
Wesley R. Lane, 34, of Feeding Hills, Massachusetts, was driving north around 6:30 p.m. on Madison Road in Norridgewock when another motorist reported that Lane was driving erratically, according to Chief Deputy James Ross of the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office.
While responding to the call, Deputy David Cole discovered that Lane had crashed the car near Father Rasle Road in Madison and was unloading items from the car and putting them into another vehicle.
The car had been reported stolen in Sandwich, Massachusetts, in connection with a home burglary. Ross said he wasn’t sure what items Lane was taking out of the car or who the second car belonged to.
Lane was charged with operating under the influence, possession of a stolen vehicle and leaving the scene of a property damage accident. More charges are possible from Massachusetts, Ross said.
He said Lane told police he was in Maine to attend a music festival.
