STANDISH – Known as the worst ice storm in Maine’s history, the disastrous and deadly event of January 1998 did inadvertantly benefit the owners of this home.
The hip roof ranch was built in 1998 on a 1.5-acre lot that apart from its road frontage, is enclosed by a mix of hard and softwood trees. That growth took a battering in the storm; dozens of trees went down and had to be hauled away.
The yard was thereby greatly enlarged, and the property owners recognized the opportunity to enhance the setting. They re-defined their yard with gardens including island beds, hardscaping, a variety of plantings, a fire pit, a new shed with double French doors, and a low-maintenance, 20-foot-by-28-foot Trex deck that effectively expanded the home’s living space for much of the year.
Taken earlier this season, the accompanying photos do not show many of the blooms that have since emerged, but do they convey the appeal of the haven the owners have created.
The home at 21 Wildridge Road is listed for sale at $245,000 by Bridget King of King + Miller Real Estate Group at The Maine Real Estate Network.
