Cross Country
Coaches: Jeff Riddle (head), Tom Noonan (asst.), Sierra Pattershall (sr., manager)
Last year’s record: Boys – Lake Region Invitational champions, regular season 8-6, TA Relays fourth of 15, Belfast Invitational seventh of 65, Regionals fifth of 16, States fourth of 15, New Englands 26th of 30; Girls – Lake Region Invitational second of eight, regular season 9-7, Belfast Invitational 16th of 58, Regionals seventh of 17, States ninth of 15
Key athletes: Greg Meader (sr.), Sebastian Foster (sr.), Reese Preston (sr.), David Sepulveda (sr.), Liam Flynn (sr.), Ben Breton (jr.), Jeremy Bennett (jr.), Wyatt Yost (so.), Mason Rosborough (fr.), Sierra Yost (sr.), Eliza Bennett (sr.), Ali Wintle (sr.), Megan Knights (sr.), Joelle Bockus (sr.), Mackenzie Pepin (sr.), Analyse Harris (sr.), Sara Packard (jr.), Kiana Clark (jr.), Amanda Turner (jr.)
Outlook: “We approach each week’s race as a vital step in our weekly improvement,” Riddle says. “We’re excited to help each athlete improve weekly, so they can be team contributors, reach PRs and be competitive.” Windham will count on its full roster to make consistent progress and to pull their weight at Regionals – and hopefully beyond. “We will race with the hope of again earning a team starting box for both our varsity boys and girls teams in the State Championship meet.”
Field Hockey
Coaches: Melissa Dubois (head), Monica Noel (asst.)
Last year’s record: 3-9-1
Key players: Katie Hunter, Hannah Skvorak, Katie Skvorak, Paige LaFerriere
Key games: Cheverus, Portland, Sanford, Gorham
Outlook: “HUZZAH!” says Dubois excitedly.
Football
Coach: Matt Perkins
Last year’s record: 9-2, fell in State Final to TA
Key players: Gerry Valliere, Tyrell Gullatt, Pat Leavitt, Griffin Jacobson, Dylan Koza, Eric Webb, Mitch Eskilson, Kyle Kilfoil
Key games: Portland, TA, Cheverus
Outlook: Perkins is happy with his roster for the coming season. “We have a solid group of seniors and veteran players,” he says. “If we can stay healthy and build depth, then we should have a very successful season.” Look for Windham to be a powerhouse in A East once more.
Golf
Last year’s record: 4-6
Key players: Alex Spiller, Jack Blake, Zach Hough, Bryce Rolfe, Tyler Johnson, Connor Daigle
Key matches: “All of them!”
Outlook: Windham faces tough competition in a division that consistently produces some of Maine’s best golfers. The team missed States by about 10 strokes in 2014, and Manzo hopes to build on that solid season with six returning varsity players and some good old-fashioned hard work.
Boys Soccer
Coach: Wally LeBlanc
Last year’s record: 4-9-1, missed playoffs
Key players: Robert Iniss (sr., B); Jeff Pollard (sr., B); Jason Neilsen (sr., B); Brandon Druoin (sr., M); Austin Farwell (sr., M); Gene Gumaer (sr., F); Tyler Skvorak (sr., F); Ryan Plummer (sr., G)
Key games: “Any teams in the middle of the pack that we’re competing against for a playoff position,” says LeBlanc. “Based on last year’s Heal Points, Noble, Bonny Eagle, Portland and Westbrook would be victories that could help us get into playoffs, and defeats that could prevent it.”
Outlook: “We’ll need to improve in order to make playoffs,” says LeBlanc, “but I am excited about this group’s potential to do just that.” Windham had an inconsistent preseason, with stretches of solid play surrounded by setbacks and inexperience. “We’d like to use these setbacks to set goals for growth,” LeBlanc says.
Girls Soccer
Coach: Deb Lebel
Last year’s record: Class A State Champs
Key players: Ciera Berthiaume (sr.), Madison Mauro (sr.), Holly Spencer (jr.), Maggie Symonds (so.), Sara Barrett
Key games: Gorham, Scarborough, TA
Outlook: Windham has been a towering force in girls soccer for some time now, but graduation in June claimed eight Lady Eagles, and another, Katie Herzig, is out with a torn ACL. “There’s a lot of room for our underclassmen to step up and take on leadership roles,” says Lebel, who is “cautiously optimistic about the upcoming season.”
Volleyball
Coach: Chris Cloutier
Last year’s record: 9-5
Key players: Melanie Aldrich (sr., S); Maelah Nadeau (sr., RS); Jamie Jannarone (jr., OH)
Key matches: Falmouth, Gorham
Outlook: “Windham will be playing the 2015 season with one of its strongest teams,” says Cloutier. Aldrich and Nadeau, co-captains, are skilled leaders, and their fellow Eagles are reliable on the court. “The Eagles should perform well during the season and are looking to make another playoff appearance.”
Windham’s Katie Hunter, seen here in early-season action last year, will play an important role for the Eagles this fall.
Windham’s Dylan Koza, seen here carrying in last year’s State Final vs. TA, returns to the field for his senior season in 2015.
