Josh Ottow has been appointed the principal of Mt. Ararat Middle School.

The school’s former principal, Bill Zima, left SAD 75 to serve as the superintendent of Regional School Unit 2.

The school board’s unanimous appointment of Ottow Thursday came just in time for Monday’s start of school.

Ottow, who spent the last four years as assistant principal at Yarmouth High School, was nominated as Mt. Ararat Middle School’s next principal. Prior to the position in Yarmouth, Ottow was an assistant principal at Mt. Ararat High School for four years.

“His familiarity with the district will be extremely helpful in this unique transition year,” Superintendent Brad Smith said last week.

Joining Ottow is Megan Hayes Teague, who will serve as a K-12 assistant principal, and who comes from RSU 2.

“Both administrators are on the job, already planning and working together to continue the work underway at the middle school, and in our school district,” said Smith.

The school board also voted in favor of entering a performance contract with Honeywell for a 15-year energy project.

The board also voted to secure financing for the project through Sterling National Bank, the other lone vendor to submit a bid along with Honeywell for the energy savings project.
