An unnamed Buxton resident surrendered 10 dogs and eight puppies to the Buxton Police Department last week, according to Chief Michael Grovo.

The town’s animal control officer received a complaint Aug. 26 that dogs in a residence on Chicopee Road were living in inhumane conditions. Grovo said that upon investigation by the town’s health officer and animal control officer, police found a large number of dogs at the residence that were not spayed or neutered.

The animals have since been released to the Animal Refuge League in Westbrook. Animal control officers in Gorham and Old Orchard Beach also responded. No charges have been filed.
