“The purpose of human life is to serve, and to show compassion and the will to help others” – Albert Schweitzer

The pantry door swings wide and through the opening come the extended hands of many. Each donation is a symbol of the saying “let me help you my friend.” Each of those hands has names like: Marian Orr, Rita Shaw, Germaine Dumas, Alice Finnegan, Jeanne Carter, Catholic Financial Life, Union De St. Jean Baptiste, Saco Elks, Charles and Suzanne Hall, Ann Marie and Mary Kenney, Robert and Barbara French Sr., James Farr, Milton and Joan Victor, Dr. Sarah Moore, Denise Doylon, Joan and Marsha Reynolds, Saco Book Discussion Group, Valerie Scanlon, Laurie Gene Mygatt, Ron and Rachel Bolduc, Judy Huot, Sue Hunt, Tata Waterhouse, Robert Ruff, Grace Agayoff and Family, Jerry Bair, Colleen Vanclief, Marin Olson, Donald and Madelyn Belliveau, Joseph and Doris Buonomo, Al and Bernadette Coulomb, Martha Taylor, James Fecteau and Eileen Doyle, Lucille Reed, Lois Samuels, Grace Lashua, Jeffrey Saffer, MD., Richard and Janine Parker, Millard and Linda Soloman, Gloria Milan, Lorraine Jones, Fran Halamandaris, Grace Lashua and Sylvia Searle.

We thank all at our houses of worship, including: Trinity Episcopal, First Parish and North Saco Congregational, Unitarian Universalist of Saco and Biddeford, Cornerstone Methodist, Bible and United Baptist, Most Holy Trinity, St. Demetrios, St. Augustine and Hope Churches.

We also thank the many business and organizations for their support, namely: Broadway Trucking, LA Brea Bakery, Saco Bay Montessori School, Sonny’s of Saco, Washington Ave. Day Care, Saco, the University of New England, Bangor Savings Bank, Thornton Academy, Community Garden, Saco Bay Variety, Maine Optometric Association, Saco and Biddeford Savings Institution, Cardullo Investments Inc., Old Orchard Beach High School, Sure Winner Foods, Shaw’s Saco, Saco Hannaford, Hair Works, Fernleaf Bakery, Little Wonders Day Care, the support of many shoppers at our recent food drive at Shaw’s and the Journal Tribune.

As we stand in honor of John and Marsha Reynolds, Mary Kenny, and Alice Finnegan, we with heads bowed remember those who have gone before, Dr. Edward Whelan, Gloria Schwickrath and Vivian Mondor. By the concern of all those mentioned here the 573 people served in July, had another mile traveled made easier. To all those mentioned, those who remain anonymous standing in the shadows and on behalf of the over 50 volunteers acting in your stead, thank you. May all and your families find good health, sunshine and God’s blessings.
