Papers available for fall election

Gorham Town Manager David Cole has announced that nomination papers are available for two Town Council openings plus three seats on the School Committee, including one held by John Doyle, who has stepped down.

Papers, available in the town clerk’s office, need to be returned by 1 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 18. The municipal election is set for Tuesday, Nov. 3.

Town Council three-year terms available are those of Sherrie Benner and Shonn Moulton. Timothy Burns’ and Darryl Wright’s three-year terms on the School Committee are also expiring.

Papers for a one-year term are available to fill the vacancy left by Doyle’s resignation. He said Tuesday he and his family are relocating to his wife’s family farm in Baldwin.

Doyle, 34, said his resignation would be effective by Election Day. He was elected in 2013 and his term was to expire in 2016.

Doyle, an attorney, submitted his resignation last week, allowing an opportunity for others to seek election. He said he’s enjoyed serving on the School Committee and praised members of the board as respectful. “It’s a good group of people,” Doyle said.

“I feel privileged to have had the chance to serve the community.”
