A Wisconsin man who sent multiple emails with sexually explicit videos of children to an undercover federal agent in Maine was sentenced on Monday in U.S. District Court in Portland to five years in federal prison.
Ryan Jeremiah Abbott, 23, of Plymouth, Wisconsin, pleaded guilty before Judge Jon Levy on April 8, 2015, to a charge of transporting child pornography, as part of a plea deal in which a second identical charge was dismissed.
The federal agent, David Fife of the Department of Homeland Security, conducts undercover investigations by using an email account that is part of a distribution list for the exchange of child pornography, he wrote in an affidavit filed with the court last December when he initially sought a warrant for Abbott’s arrest.
After posting an email to the list, Fife received a response from Abbott last Sept. 29. From that time until last Oct. 7, Abbott sent Fife eight emails, three with links to folders on foreign Internet cloud storage services and five with attached child pornography videos, according to court records.
The judge also sentenced Abbott to serve seven years of supervised release after completing his prison term.
