GEORGETOWN — At 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 18, at the Georgetown Historical Society, Susie Westly Wren will share her experiences during the last two years of finding, identifying, restoring, and archiving her family’s history through a stash of photos and letters discovered at the family homestead in Georgetown Center. She will describe types and ages of photographs, tools for identifying mysterious pictures and people, and methods of restoration and archiving. In anticipation of our 2016 Tricentennial, there will be some fun examples of Georgetown’s history that are part of her family’s collection as well as several other community sources.
The Wren family have been coming to Georgetown since 1909, starting with Susie’s great grandparents Frank and Mary Wren, who bought the cottage at Kennebec Point in 1911. Susie’s great uncle Edward Wren was the first year-round Wren in town when he and his wife, Myrtle Thompson Wren, moved into the blacksmith’s house at the center of town in 1917. Susie has discovered that a 1759 marriage between a Libby and a Mitchell in Georgetown is a blessing that bestowed part of her long lineage of Maine family.
