The fifth annual 9/11 Memorial 5K Run-Walk & Kids’ Fun Run takes place Sunday, Sept. 13, in Gorham.
All proceeds from this event go directly to the Stephen G. Ward Memorial Scholarship Fund.
The event honors Ward and all of those lost in the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. Ward was a graduate of Gorham High School and the University of Maine. He held a master’s degree in accounting with a concentration in financial planning and worked as a CPA for Cantor Fitzgerald on the 101st floor of the North tower of the World Trade Center.
A kids’ fun runs starts at 8:30 a.m. at the Gorham High School track. A 5K starts at 9:15 a.m. with start and finish at the Gorham Recreation Department.
Post-race refreshments and pre- and post-event massage will be available. Register online at http://911memorial5k.com. There are early registration, student, and family discounts available and free T-shirts for the first 100 registrants.
