HALLOWELL — The Bookey Poetry Reading series invites area poets to come and read their work at the Harlow Gallery on Friday, Aug. 14. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for poets to ‘sign in’ and read, with sign up ending promptly at 7 p.m. All poet’s names will be thrown into a hat, and readers will wait for their name to be selected. Each reader has a maximum of 5 minutes to read, which means they can read 3 short poems of 16 lines each, 2 medium poems of 25-30 lines each or 1 long poem of 50- 60 lines.
The night gives poets who might not usually have an opportunity to read their work to do so in a great venue and in a spirit of fun and support. Poetry must be appropriate for an all-age audience.
The Harlow Gallery is located at 160 Water Street in Hallowell. Readings start at 7 p.m. and refreshments are served. A $3 donation is appreciated at the door.
During the reading, guests will enjoy “Fired Up” a ceramic art show on view through Aug. 22. Art exhibitions at the Harlow Gallery are always free and open to the public. Gallery hours are noon to 6 p.m. Wednesday-Saturday.
