“Organicism” is coming to three new venues — Hancock, Southwest Harbor and a free concert in Bethel — as well as to familiar venues in Harpswell, Bristol, Tenants Harbor and Boothbay. The program consists of Mendelssohn’s Quartet in D Major Op. 44, No. 1; Stravinsky’s Concertino; and Schumann’s Quartet in A Major Op. 41, No. 3.
It is called “Organicism” because the three quartets illustrate a basic principal of composition. Over the course of the evening, the DaPonte Quartet will help audience members discover how each of these rich and complex pieces of music are “organically” spun out from one tiny cell of notes.
Now celebrating its 24th season, the DaPonte is Maine’s premier string quartet. It performs over 65 concerts and outreach events year-round and across the entire state, as well as around the United States.
The following performances are all at 7:30pm. Tickets for each are $25 at www.DaPonte.org, Maine Coast Books or River Arts Gallery in Damariscotta; Gulf of Maine Books, Brunswick; or at (207) 529- 4555:
• Aug. 4, Centennial Hall, 923 Harpswell Neck Rd., Harpswell.
• Aug. 6, Union Church, Rte 129, So. Bristol.
