The Mountain View Woodies Classic Boat Club will again hold its popular Classic Boat & Car Show on the Naples Causeway on Friday and Saturday, July 31 and Aug. 1.
A highlight of the summer in the Lakes Region, the annual show draws beautifully restored antique boats and autos both in-water and parked for crowd inspection all along the historic Naples waterfront.
New this year will be a gathering of rare 1960s amphicars traveling from various corners of the Northeast. The first commercial amphibious “car-boat” vehicle ever made, Amphicars are celebrating the 50th anniversary of their memorable introduction at the 1964/1965 New York World’s Fair, and are a sight to behold as operators drive directly into the water.
The weekend features two major events, according to organizer Jon March. On Friday night, the classic boats will line up for a public In-Water Parade starting at 7:30 p.m. from Brandy Pond, proceeding under the new bridge and along the Causeway and Town Dock. March says the boat parade is a special feature in Naples, not often seen at Classic events, and is not to be missed – offering the rare opportunity for spectators to actually see, hear and photograph real Classics “underway.”
On Saturday from 10 a.m.-3 p.m., the Classics Show will once again turn the Causeway into a historic scene made famous on so many vintage Naples vacation postcards, with vintage boats and antique cars lining the Long Lake waterfront. Makes and models from all eras will be displayed, and admission is free.
The Woodies club enjoys outings, a highlight being the annual July Camp Sunshine ride-day that brings much-needed fun to kids challenged with serious illness.
For those with an antique boat or auto interested in display, registration is free on a first come-first served basis from 9-9:45 a.m. before the show. See staff at the show tent on the Town Dock for more information. Parking and food are available all along routes 302 and 114.
