BRUNSWICK
Topsham and Brunswick’s historic review committees will met together to discuss the Frank J. Wood Bridge project still in the design phase.
Topsham’s Historic District Commission will meet with the Brunswick Village Review Board tonight at 6 p.m. at Brunswick Town Hall.
The Maine Department of Transportation is developing plans for a bridge improvement project, which could include renovation, replacement or some combination of the two. Following a public hearing in February, MDOT officials will return in the fall to share with the public its recommendation for addressing the 1931 truss bridge, also known locally as the Green Bridge, as it nears the end of its life.
Topsham’s commission approached Brunswick about holding the joint meeting. Topsham Assistant Planner Carol Eyerman said this will be a collaborative discussion of the members “to figure out what they might want to do, if anything, and find out what the state has in mind and maybe influence it.”
Topsham’s historic district stops at the edge of the bridge. The bridge itself does not fall into a zoning district in either town.
Brunswick Director of Planning and Development Anna Breinich said the towns don’t have any design information from MDOT at this time. Tonight’s meeting will focus on information available, and on what MDOT will share with the committees on a preliminary basis.
