Two people, including a volunteer town firefighter, were injured Sunday evening when a home and surrounding property were hit at least twice by lightning in the Oxford County town of Denmark.

Fire Chief Dana Costello said both victims were taken by ambulance to Bridgton Hospital. Costello said the victims were treated and released.

Costello said the first victim was sitting in his car when lightning struck a utility pole. The pole fell onto the vehicle. When a firefighter arrived at the property, he attempted to assist the motorist by helping him walk up stairs and onto a porch. As the firefighter opened the screen door to the porch, the home was hit by lightning.

Neither victim suffered a direct lightning hit, Costello said. Costello declined to identify the victims.
