Daniel Jones has been appointed as Gorham’s ?new ?police chief, Gorham Town Manager David Cole announced Wednesday.

Cole said in a ?press ?release that Jones is the deputy chief for the Kennebunk Police Department. Jones succeeds Ronald Shepard, who retired Nov. 4 as Gorham’s chief. Jones will start his ?new job? on Aug. 24,? ?Cole said, and will earn an annual salary of $84,700.

Cole said Jones has previously ?served ?as detective?, s?upervisory constable and lieutenant before becoming Kennebunk’s deputy chief in 2014. Jones previously worked for the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office in Fort Prince, Fla., and was a task force officer with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and with the U.S. Customs Service. He also worked for the Fort Prince Police Department.

Lt. Christopher Sanborn has served as Gorham’s acting chief since Shepard, now a Gorham Town Councilor, retired.
