Maine State Music Theatre presents Meredith Willson’s beloved all-American classic “The Music Man.” This six-time Tony Awardwinning musical has been entertaining audiences since 1957. “The Music Man” runs July 15 through August 1.
“Funny and original songs, rich characters and an accessible story — this show is a classic for good reasons,” said MSMT’s Artistic Director Curt Dale Clark, who will also star in the show as Harold Hill.
The show follows fasttalking traveling salesman Hill as he cons the people of River City, Iowa, into buying instruments and uniforms for a boys’ band he vows to organize — despite the fact he doesn’t know a trombone from a treble clef. His plans to skip town with the cash are foiled when he falls for Marian the librarian.
This family-friendly classic, based on the story by Meredith Willson and Franklin Lacey, also stars David Girolmo as Mayor Shinn, Lauren Blackman as Marian Paroo, Lily Ramras as Amaryllis, Andrew Lyndaker as Winthrop, Charis Leos as Eulalie Mackecknie Shinn, Cary Michelle Miller as Ethel Toffelmeir, Paul Aguirre as Ewart Dunlop, Steve Gagliastro as Jacey Squires, April Woodall as Mrs. Paroo, Peter McClung as Olin Britt, John H. Thyen as Oliver Hix, Spencer Clark as Tommy Djilas, John R. Edmonds as Charlie Cowell, Jayson Elliott as Marcellus Washburn, Chrissy Albanese as Maude Dunlop, Glenn Anderson as Constable Locke, Birdie Newman Katz as Alma Hix, Waverly Jane Moller as Gracie Shinn, Beth Kirkpatrick as Mrs. Squires, Jillaine McGough as Mrs. Hix and Liz Schmitz as Zaneeta Shinn.
The supporting cast of “The Music Man” features Buddy Reeder, Michael Graceffa, Thomas Blake Hogan, Michaela K. Boissoneault, Mary Beth Donahoe, Alec Cohen and Samuel Allen.
The young ensemble includes Jonah Daiute, Aymeric Dauge-Roth, Aidan Gallagher, Emma Joanis, Alexa Reddy and Madeleine Vaillancourt.
The award-winning Marc Robin, (from MSMT’s “Mary Poppins” and “Les Miserables,” among others) will direct and choreograph.
Maine State Music Theatre will be holding a free talkback, “A Peek Behind The Curtain: The Music Man,” at Curtis Memorial Library in Brunswick on July 22 at noon.
