BIDDEFORD — Carmen (Houde) Cote, 85, of Biddeford, entered peaceful eternity on Saturday, July 4, 2015 at Southridge Living Center.

She was born in Biddeford on July 31, 1929, a daughter of Ozea and Lydia (Poisson) Houde. She graduated from Thornton Academy, Class of 1947.

On April 17, 1948, she married Roger Cote at Notre Dame de Lourdes Church.

Carmen owned and operated Archie’s Variety Store with her husband for 24 years, until 1993.

She was also employed by Saco Lowell Shops, Sax Glassman Shoe and West Point Pepperell, retiring in 1970.

She was an avid bowler and enjoyed traveling.

Most of all, she loved to spend time with her family.

She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Catholic Order of Foresters.

Mrs. Cote was a parishioner of the former Notre Dame de Lourdes Church, where she was a member of the church choir.

She is preceded in death by: her husband, Roger, in 1978; her grandson, James Bilodeau; her brothers, Albert, Paul, and Reggie; and sisters, Urika Rita Picard, Anita Goolsby, Marguerite Bouchard, and Theresa LaSante.

She is survived by: her son, Richard Cote and his partner Barbara Brunet of Arundel; her daughters, Joan Lonsdale and her husband David of Biddeford, and Susan Bilodeau and her husband Roger of Biddeford; her grandchildren, Christine Merrill and her husband Terry, Rae-Lynn Cote, Lori LaBrecque and her husband David, Jeffry Bilodeau, and Kelly Parent and her husband Adam; and her two precious great-grandchildren, Matthew Merrill, and Camden LaBrecque.

She is also survived by: her brothers, Raymond Houde and his wife Jeannette, Gerard Houde, and Robert Houde and his wife Sonia; her sisters, Laurette Labbe, Pauline Levesque, Doris Vail and Lucille Reed; her brother-in-law, Roland Bouchard; and many nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, July 9 at Cote Funeral Home, 87 James Street, Saco.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday, July 10 at Most Holy Trinity Church, Good Shepherd Parish in Saco. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Biddeford.
