Thumbs up to Goodwin’s Mills Fire Engine 83, and to the former Fire Engine 3. Fire Engine 3 served the communities of Dayton and Lyman well for many years, and Fire Engine 83 is expected to do the same.
Thumbs down to the alleged burglar or burglars who reportedly took money, jewelry, electronics and other items from cars and homes in Old Orchard Beach, primarily the Ocean Park and Union Avenue areas, as well as the beach side streets of West Grand and East Grand Avenue. Police say alleged thieves appear to be targeting homes and cars that are unlocked, so this should serve as a reminder to lock your doors.
Thumbs up to Saint Andre Home for starting to offer low-cost supported visitation services at its Center for Parenting and Play, at 11 Adams St. in Biddeford. Supported visitations, which are sometimes ordered by the courts in cases of parental separation or divorce, are supervised visits between nonresidential parents and their children. They can be prohibitively expensive, though, and through its new program, Saint Andre Home is addressing the need for more affordable supported visitation services in southern Maine.
Thumbs up to Ludmila “Lottie” Ziepniewski, who at 102 is the oldest resident of Saco. Ziepniewski, a retired librarian formerly of New Jersey, recently received a cane made by Southern Maine Chronic Pain Support Group facilitator Ernie Merritt. The tradition of giving the oldest Saco resident a cane began in 2014.
Thumbs up to Sanford for opening Gateway Park that offers a view of a waterfall that has been closed off to public view for years and will provide an area of relaxation and park for children to play in. Thumbs up also to the Sanford Springvale Kiwanis Club, students at the Sanford Regional Technical Center and other volunteers who will build a comfort station, raised block planters and other amenities for the park.
