OLD ORCHARD BEACH — Viola (Fedorczyk) Margarones of Norwich, Connecticut and Lewiston and Old Orchard Beach, passed away peacefully on June 30, 2015, after 81 years of sharing her selfless soul with family and friends.

A devoted mother, she will continue to inspire her five children and nine grandchildren through her kindness.

She will be lovingly remembered by: her children, Estelle of Weymouth, Joseph and wife Leslie of Seattle, Margot of Wilton, Katherine and husband Ben Milliken of Saco, and Melissa and husband Ben Wilson of Sabattus; grandchildren, Luke and Clara, John Michael and Everett, Noah and Hannah, Nikolas, Josie and Chloe; and many nieces and nephews.

Vi is preceded in death by: her parents, Genevieve and Anthony Fedorczyk; her sister, Ursula Adamcewicz Kane; beloved nephew, Steve Adamcewicz; and her steadfast husband, John.

A first-generation American, she took on responsibility early in life. At the tender age of 7, she was a translator for her Polish-speaking parents. Along with her husband, she ran West Surf Apartments in Old Orchard Beach and was the proprietor of Vi’s Gifts, Etc. on Old Orchard Street.

She was the first in her family to graduate college and was a member of Pi Beta Phi. She went on to obtain her master’s degree.

Viola taught business skills at Glastonbury High School and Edward O. Smith High School in Connecticut, and went on to teach at the University of Connecticut, where she met her husband, John. After her children were grown, she came out of retirement to teach at Lewiston High School.

Her passions included gardening, classical music, yard sales, playing the piano, shopping for finds at Marden’s, and hoping to win Publisher’s Clearinghouse. She was a published poet and author and she gave of her time and talent to volunteer in the community. Viola was a shining presence in Old Orchard Beach and would often take a break from gardening to give dog biscuits to neighborhood canines on morning walks.

Her faith and her family were of paramount importance to her. She will long be remembered for her thoughtfulness and as a kind and sweet lady who made people smile.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m., today at the Old Orchard Beach Funeral Home, 36 Portland Ave, Old Orchard Beach.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, July 3 in St. Maragaret’s Church, corner of Saco Avenue and Old Orchard Street, Old Orchard Beach. Interment will be in the family lot in St. Demetrios Cemetery in Biddeford.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to Norwich Free Academy, 305 Broadway, Norwich, CT 06360.
