SACO — Raymond Arthur Smith, 84, of Coventry, Rhode Island, died on Sunday, June 21, 2015, in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loved ones.
Raymond was formally from Saco and a graduate of Thornton Academy, Class of 1951.
Son of the late Earl and Mary Matthews Smith, Ray was an amazing man with a unique mix of kindness, stubbornness, and great sense of humor. He and his late wife, Bernice “Bunny” Grant, opened their arms, hearts, and home to everyone in a nonjudgmental manner. Their one child, Michael, gave them three grandchildren. In addition, they fostered 27 children.
He is preceded in death by: his wife; brothers, Earl and William; and sisters, Elizabeth “Betty” Smith Carr, and Barbara Ruth Smith. He is survived by: two brothers, Larry and Robert, both of Buxton; and a sister, Margaret “Peggy” Ricker, of Saco.
Graveside prayers were held on June 28 at Tory Hill Cemetery in Buxton.
