A Cool Venue

Attend a free movie in the Gray Public Library “theater.” The lineup includes: “While We’re Young” (R), Tuesday, July 7, at 6:30 p.m.; “Underdog” (PG), Thursday, July 9, at 10:30 a.m.; “Jaws” (PG), Thursday, July 9 at 2 p.m., “Princess Bride” (PG), Saturday, July 11 at 1 p.m.; “Kingsman: The Secret Service” (R), Tuesday, July 14, at 6:30 p.m.; “Big Hero 6” (PG), Thursday, July 16, at 10:30 a.m.; and “Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel” (PG), Thursday, July 16 at 2 p.m.

This year’s theme for Summer Reading is “Every Hero Has a Story.” Most Summer Reading events will be held on Fridays in July. Please check out the schedule of all of the wonderful presenters the next time you are at the library. You do not need to sign up in order to attend the events and you do not need to attend the events if you sign up for a packet.

These events are open to all.

Bee Buzz

Beekeeping Basics will be discussed Wednesday, July 15, at 6:30 p.m. at the Gray Public Library, located at 5 Hancock St. Mark Cooper, of Cooper’s Royal Heritage Farm in Windham, will be discussing beginner’s beekeeping techniques and how you can get started. For more information, call 657-4110.

45th Year

Gray-New Gloucester High School class of 1970’s reunion is Saturday, Aug. 22, at 534 New Gloucester Road, North Yarmouth. The reunion starts at 2 p.m., the grill is hot at 5:30 p.m., and the pool is open. Bring your own adult beverage and something to cook on the grill. Free Lunch

A free summer lunch will be available for all kids and teens 18 and under from June 25-Aug. 21. It will be served Monday through Friday at the following locations/ dates: Gray-New Gloucester High School, 10 Libby Hill Road, Gray, 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and Liberty Family Foundation, 23 North Raymond Road, Gray, 11:30 a.m.-12:15 p.m. Monday-Thursday only at Russell Elementary School, 8 Gray Park, Gray, 11:30 a.m.-noon. All sites are closed July 3.

Wildlife Park Upcoming Events

On Saturday, July 4, at the Maine Wildlife Park, located on Route 26 in Gray, watch a variety of the wildlife eat their daily meals at scheduled times throughout the day starting at 10 a.m. Garter and Water Snakes (in the Visitor Center) at 11 a.m. Bears at noon. Eagles, 1 p.m. Small Mammals, 2 p.m. Fawns, 3 p.m. Lynx, bobcat, cougar and moose at 4 p.m. The animals are fed a healthy natural diet that is as close to what they’d eat in the wild as possible. This is a great photo opportunity for those interested. Remember that the wildlife park does allow feeding the appropriate food for deer, ground birds, bears and hatchery brook trout.

On the following Saturday, July 11, at 11 a.m., Maine Forest Yurts will be featured. Join Bob Crowley, winner of the TV show “Survivor: Gabon,” to learn about his newest venture. Learn about yurts, what they are, their benefits, and how Bob and his family have taken camping in the Maine woods to a new level.

Gray Public Notices

The municipal officers of the town of Gray are soliciting sealed bids for the following properties that are tax acquired:

Parcel 1 – Off Dutton Hill Road Land-Map/Lot-068-035-019-000 (formerly described as Map/Lot 035-019-000-000) minimum bid price of $3,000.

Parcel 2 – Long Hill Road Land-Map/Lot-060-042-010-000 (formerly described as Map/Lot 042-010-000-000) minimum bid price of $3,000.00.

Bid opening is Aug. 4 at the Town Council Chambers during a regularly scheduled meeting.

A deposit in the amount of not less than 10 percent of the bid price will be included as the deposit on the bid, in cash, cashiers check, or certifiable U.S. funds made payable to town of Gray with the balance due and payable within 10 business days of the award of the municipal officers.

The Gray Town Council will hold a first reading on July 7 at 7 p.m. at the Henry Pennell Municipal Complex, 24 Main St., to receive public comments on proposed amendments to the town’s sign ordinance.

The amendments prohibit political signs near the Route 26/26A intersection and allow farm stands to have additional signage including off-site.

Race Results

Thanks go out to all who came out to enjoy the first day of summer by showing support to the Libby Hill trail system and running the 5K. The rain stopped and the sun came out long enough for a new course record to be set by Ben Garcia, 17, of New Gloucester, with a time of 17:43. Second place was Nate Priest, 32, from Gray, with a time of 18:34. Third place was Adam Zukowski, 33, of Durham, with a time of 19:02. First female to finish at 14th place was Kylie Bedard, 12, of Gray, with a time of 22:52.

All proceeds go back to the trail system.
