Buxton firm recognized for safety

Gorham Sand & Gravel, owned by Jim and Tom Shaw, was presented with the Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program award by Maine Department of Labor officials on Friday at the company headquarters in Buxton.

“Acceptance into SHARP is an achievement of status that will single you out among your business peers as a model for worksite safety and health,” Steven Greeley, consultation program manager at the Maine Department of Labor, said in a presentation.

The award exempts Gorham Sand & Gravel from Occupational Safety and Health Administration inspections for up to two years.

Gorham Sand & Gravel became one of only 70 locations in Maine and 1,800 in the United States to receive the award.

“This is a very elite award,” said Pamela Megathlin, bureau director at the Maine Department of Labor.
