Somebody on Tuesday, June 30, will find out that he or she has collected the one grand prize as the winner of “The Great Scavenger Hunt,” a promotional event organized by the Greater Freeport Chamber of Commerce.
A total of 22 local businesses are participating in the event, which runs through Friday, June 26, and is designed to get customers into their stores. At the same time, the businesses all put up merchandise toward the winning prize.
To play, shoppers purchase so-called passports from the chamber of commerce office on Depot Street, for $5. Clues are in the form of questions that can only be answered by going into the businesses and speaking with employees. The player then writes the answer on the playing card, or passport, and the employee initials to prove the player went into the store.
When all clues have been answered or verified, the passports are turned into the chamber office and put into the grand prize drawing.
