SACO — Alberic “Savage” Legendre, 91, of Biddeford and formerly of Saco, passed away on Saturday, June 13, 2015, at home surrounded by his family.
He was born in 1924 in Les Etroits, Quebec, a son of Marie- Luce Ouellet and Albert Legendre. He was the last of eight children.
After working in the logging camps in Canada at a young age, he migrated south to the Saco-Biddeford area, where he continued his logging profession. He owned and operated his logging business. In addition, Savage worked evenings at the Saco Tanning Company to help support his family.
His hobbies included watching the Montreal Canadians hockey team and professional boxing. Most recently he enjoyed vegetable gardening.
Savage loved to spend time with his family, especially watching his children and grandchildren’s sporting events. He was very supportive of his family.
He was preceded in death by: his wife, Lucille (Girard) Legendre in 1998; one daughter, Lynn Deshaies Nelson in 2000; and one son Alberic Legendre Jr. in 2003.
He is survived by: his daughters, Lisa Legendre, Carleen Parker, Kathleen Black, Samantha Newman, and Donna Coreau; and his sons, Rodney Legendre, Tom Deshaies, David Deshaies, Daniel Deshaies, and Percy Dionne.
He is also survived by: grandchildren, great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be from 4-7 p.m., Wednesday, June 17 at Cote Funeral Home, 87 James St., Saco.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 18 at St. Joseph’s Church in Biddeford. Entombment will follow in Laurel Hill Cemetery, Saco.
