SOUTH PORTLAND – Andrew Whipple scored one goal and assisted on the other four as the top-seeded Red Riots (12-1) took a 5-1 first-quarter lead on their way to a 16-7 win over No. 5 Gorham (10-4) in a Western Class A semifinal.

South Portland, the defending state champion, upped the lead to 8-1 in the second quarter and was in control throughout.

Whipple finished with two goals and seven assists. Jack Fiorini had three goals and two assists, and Kam Andrews also scored three goals.

Cam Wright had two goals and an assist for Gorham.

YARMOUTH 14, GARDINER 2: Will Garrett scored five goals and set up another as the second-seeded Clippers (11-3) advanced to the Eastern Class B final with a win over third-seeded Gardiner (10-4) at Yarmouth.

Bill Jacobs chipped in with three goals and an assist. Yarmouth will seek its third straight regional title when it hosts North Yarmouth Academy on Wednesday.

THORNTON ACADEMY 11, SCARBOROUGH 8: Isaac Sinclair and Jon Camire each had four goals and an assist, and the second-seeded Trojans (11-3) held off third-seeded Scarborough (9-5) in a Western Class A semifinal at Saco.

The Red Storm, trailing 8-2 entering the final quarter, pulled to within 9-8 before Camire and Tyler LaPointe scored in the final 1:21.

Zach Bryant had a goal and three assists for Thornton. Cam Nigro notched three goals for Scarborough, and Sam Neugebauer had two goals and an assist.

CAPE ELIZABETH 16, KENNEBUNK 2: Ben Shea scored four of his six goals during the second quarter as the top-ranked Capers (11-2) built an 11-1 lead against No. 5 Kennebunk (7-7) in a Western Class B semifinal at Cape Elizabeth.

Owen Thoreck added five goals and Connor Thoreck scored twice.
