GRAY — Lexi L’Heureux Carland scored from third base in the top of the eighth inning to give No. 7 Fryeburg Academy a 3-2 win over No. 6 Gray-New Gloucester in the Western Class B softball tournament semifinals Saturday morning.
The Raiders (13-6) advance to Tuesday’s regional final at 7 p.m. at St. Joseph’s College against either Yarmouth or Greely.
With one out in the top of the eighth, L’Heureux Carland tripled to left center. Three batters later, Kristina Hudson hit a ground ball to third. L’Heureux Carland broke for the plate and collided with catcher Maria Valente. She was ruled safe when the ball was knocked loose.
Gray-New Gloucester (12-6) put the lead runner on in the bottom of the eighth when Alie Martell singled, but Fryeburg pitcher Nicole Bennett retired the next three batters to end the game.
Fryeburg has won two road games to reach the final.
“We like playing on the road,” said Fryeburg Coach Fred Apt. “I try to schedule as many preseason road games as I can.”
