School’s Out

Well, almost. They go until June 22 this year due to snow days. The kids are counting down the days. Luckily for them, the ice cream shops and most all other Causeway businesses are either open or partially open. One of the businesses I think everyone is anticipating is the Pretentious Pie Company, located in the former Antique Revival Shop on the corner of Route 302 and Route 35. Judging on curb appeal alone, I’d say we are in for some yummy treats and coffee! Looking good. Luckily, there are a couple of gyms nearby! Another is the new Chinese restaurant taking over the former Lost Lobster space. Again, thankful for Naples Fitness Gym and Fountain of You Fitness right here in Naples!

The Blues Festival

Fast approaching is next weekend. What a fun way for dads and their families to spend Father’s Day weekend. Naples will be filled with music and vendors from Friday, June 19, to Sunday, June 21. Visit mainebluesfestival.com for more information.

Fourth of July Update

Looking forward to this year’s parade, scheduled, as always, at 2 p.m. on the Causeway? You may be surprised in what direction this year’s parade is headed in, literally. Normally, the parade starts at The Umbrella Factory, ending at the Village Green. This year, lineups will be held at the Village Green and end at the Umbrella Factory. Please plan accordingly. The theme for this year’s parade is “American Heroes.” While the town of Naples does not have an ordinance prohibiting the use of fireworks, my feeling is it is best to leave it up to the professionals. Naples has one of the best shows in the Lake Region, starting, weather permitting, at dusk. There is a rain date of July 5 for festivities.

Naples Historical Society

Naples is very fortunate to have a comprehensive museum all about our lovely little town. Merry Watson spearheaded the opening of the museum in 2012. Looking for information about the town of Naples or the surrounding area? Merry and her staff can help. Just call the facility at 693-3103 or stop by during business hours from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, and during holidays and holiday weekends. There are some really cool things to see there. For example, ever wonder what they used to clear the snow back in the day? A snow roller of course. The museum has one. They also have an antique fire truck, which proudly participates in the Naples Fourth of July Parade.

The museum also serves as an information center. If you would like to have your business information or attraction flyers on display there, contact the museum to learn more about rack fees, 100 percent of which goes to the operations of the historical society and information center. They will even link your business or attraction information to their website.

Songo Locks Pride

Recently I attended a fun themed luncheon at Songo Locks School to celebrate the staff and students’ pride in their school.

The staff went all out as they dressed up in 1950s attire to keep with the theme of the movie “Grease.” Students were given paper deli keeper-style hats, which was just adorable. They even had cool cars from the 1950s parked outside. A great effort by the staff and students. So much fun can be had by being creative!

Naples Website

Every once in a while I go on the town website just to see what’s new, and I was pleasantly surprised. They had a business section, in which they list many businesses that would be of interest to the visitor in Naples. I think that is a great idea, and I thank the town for adding that. I am sure it is hard to keep it current with all the changes in the business scene around here. Also on the website is the opportunity to renew your boat or ATV registration or obtain a hunting or fishing license. Visit www.townofnaples.org to explore.
