Carl Johnson’s column on “The Fall of the AL East” on Sunday, June 7, was excellent. It was well researched and well written. He was able to document how baseball’s American League East Division, where the Red Sox reside, has gone from being one of the strongest division’s in baseball to one of its weakest. His comparison of wins and losses in games played against non-division opponents proved his premise.

Ironically, his analysis of the weakness of this division gives Red Sox fans hope for possibly making the playoffs. Because all of the teams in the divsion are weak ”“ barely winning more than half of their games ”“ it is anyone’s division to win!

Thanks to Carl for such good writing, research and analysis.
