I recently moved to Saco from a small town in Connecticut just a few weeks ago. I had lived in Camden, Maine in my early 20s and had fallen in love with its awe-inspiring beauty. I was blessed to be able to walk out my door and overlook Hosmer Pond. Just a three-minute walk through the woods and I would find myself at the base of Ragged Mountain, also known as the Camden Snow Bowl, during ski season. I was just five minutes from the coast and surrounded by luscious forests with babbling brooks and streams. Naturally, when I had decided to make another move, Maine had this organic pull on me to come back.

It was disheartening to discover that there were loopholes in the Clean Water Act created by polluting industries. This obviously threatens the lakes that we love and puts our drinking water at risk. I was also amazed to read that these loopholes leave 25,000 miles of Maine’s streams open to pollution.

As elected officials by the people, our Senators should be behind the people. It is their duty to ensure that we have the clean water we are entitled to, not just for now but for our future. I am hoping Senator King can be the clean water champion that we all need him to be.
