OLD ORCHARD BEACH — Former Deputy Town Clerk Alys Arlene LeBreton, 88, of Lucette Avenue, Old Orchard Beach, died Wednesday, May 28, 2015, in Ledgewood Manor, Windham.

Mrs. LeBreton was born Jan. 25, 1927, in Watertown, South Dakota, a daughter of Melvin and Frances Christianson Erickson. She was educated in Wilmot, South Dakota schools and graduated high school there.

In 1946, she moved to Old Orchard Beach, where she married her late husband, Donald J. LeBreton. He died in 1990.

From 1961 until her retirement in 1992, she was employed as a regional supervisor in setting up new facilities for the former Mammoth Mart and Rich’s Department Stores throughout New England. Following her retirement she was appointed Deputy Town Clerk in Old Orchard Beach by former Town Clerk Maureen M. Mokarzel O’Leary, a position she held until 1998, when she retired for a second time.

Arlene, as she was known to many, was the recipient of the Portland Press Herald’s and Maine Sunday Telegram’s “Maine Business Woman of the Year” in the 1970s.

During her leisure time, she enjoyed flowers, gardening and dining out.

Besides her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by: her son, Ronald J., who died in 2012.

She is survived by: a daughter, Jana M. Byrnes and her husband Robert of Old Orchard Beach and Bradenton, Florida; a brother, Donn Erickson and his wife Joan C. of Old Orchard Beach; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Wednesday, June 3 from 4-7 p.m. at the Old Orchard Beach Funeral Home, 36 Portland Ave., Old Orchard Beach.

Funeral services will be held at the funeral home Thursday, June 4 at 11 a.m. Interment will be in the family lot at Laurel Hill Cemetery, Saco.
