Drouin dancers ready for recital
Drouin Dance Center of Westbrook presents its 10th anniversary season recital and student showcase, titled “Ten!” on Saturday, June 6, at Westbrook Performing Arts Center, Westbrook Middle School, 471 Stroudwater St.
Performances are at 9:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. The students, ages 3 through adults, are from several communities including Buxton, Gorham, Scarborough, Westbrook and Windham. The show will feature crowd favorites over the last 10 years, as well as feature student choreography works, alumni dancers, and their award winning DDC Dance Company.
Ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, lyrical, musical theater and more will be featured. Tickets are $18 in advance; $20 at the door. For tickets or more information, contact Drouin Dance Center at 854-2221 or email Brittany@drouindancecenter.com.
Vivid Motion auditions
Vivid Motion will hold auditions for “From the Top, Favorite Dances from 12 Years of Vivid Motion,” Monday, June 1, from 7-9 p.m. at Drouin Dance Center, Dana Warp Mill, Westbrook.
Auditions will be held in a class format; there is no need to prepare anything special. Wear comfortable clothes that you can move in, dance shoes or bare feet, and have your hair out of your face. A variety of dancers, from experienced to beginners, in different styles, is needed.
Rehearsals will be Monday, Wednesday and Thursday starting June 3, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., at St Lawrence Arts on Congress Street or at Drouin Dance Center. Shows are July 24–26 at St Lawrence.
Since this is a short rehearsal period, dancers should have a clear schedule. You will not necessarily have to rehearse for the full time on each night, rehearsal schedules are dependent upon casting (the more dances you’re in, the more rehearsals you have to attend).

Dahms was Korea POW
Patricia Bailey of Westbrook said Friday her late, former husband, Lawrence Dahms, was a prisoner of war in Korea for three years. Dahms was a native of South Portland.
Bailey called the American Journal after reading last week’s Memorial Day story that told of Billy Camden of Buxton, who was a prisoner of war 31 months in Korea.
Lawrence Dahms was honored with a big, homecoming parade in South Portland, Bailey said, similar to one for Camden in Buxton.
Their three children are Kevin Dahms of Gorham, Larry Dahms, Westbrook; and Karen Tompson, who lives in Florida.
Dugas earns degree
Zachary Dugas of Westbrook received a bachelor of science degree in mountain recreation management in commencement exercises on May 17 at Lyndon State College in Lyndonville, Vt.
Tate House tea
The Tate House Museum, 1267 Westbrook St., Portland, has announced its second annual Tate House Tea in the garden from 1-4 p.m. on Sunday, June 7.
The garden, which overlooks the Stroudwater River, will be the location for various hot and iced teas prepared and served by Nellie’s Teas of South Portland. “To accompany your tea, we will have scones served with lemon curd, jam and clotted cream and numerous other sweet and savory confections,” the museum announced. “This is a great opportunity to spend an afternoon with friends or family enjoying this civilized British activity while supporting the museum.”
The Tate House was built in 1755 for George Tate, the senior mast agent for the British Royal Navy.
The Tate House will be open for tours for those who have never seen the Georgian colonial house. The charge for this event is $12 for members and $16 for non-members. Reservations are requested and can be made by calling the Tate House at 774-6177 or emailing info@tatehouse.org
