BIDDEFORD — Arnold “Arnie” Howe, 81, of Bourne, Massachusetts and Biddeford and Standish, passed away on Saturday, May 16, 2015 at a local nursing home after a long illness with Parkinson’s disease.
He was the son of the late Harold and Doris (Tillson) Howe.
He was born in Biddeford in 1934. He attended schools in Biddeford and Jaffery, New Hampshire and graduated from Thornton Academy in Saco in 1952.
He served in the U.S. Army active services in Germany and then the Army Reserve in Maine with an honorable discharge in 1962. He continued his education at the University of Maine’s Portland branch and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Business Degree in 1964.
He started his career at Yellow Motors, a Division of GMAC, in Portland, and transferred to GMAC as supervisor working in Boston, Quincy and Brockton, Massachusetts, where he retired after 28 years of service in 1992.
He enjoyed his days for many years living on Sebago Lake in Maine with his loving family and many dear friends. Also spending cold winters in Florida with more dear friends before moving to Cape Cod in 2012.
He also spent many years singing in choral groups and church choirs. He loved to play tennis and enjoyed riding his pontoon boat on Sebago Lake.
He is survived by: his wife Lena of 40 years; a daughter, Kristin Howe of Springvale; three stepchildren, Barbara Rudnicki and her husband John of West Bridgewater, Massachusetts, Alan Vaughan of Pocasset, Massachusetts, and Susan Simmons of Bourne, Massachusetts; seven grandchildren, Kevin and Jeffrey Rudnicki, Michael and Christopher Simmons, Lindsey Gauthier, and Sable and Carina Ryan; a great-grandson, Liam Young; and a sister, Alice True of Springvale.
His memorial service will be held on Friday, May 29 at noon at the Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home, 40 MacArthur Blvd., Bourne, MA. Visitation is from 11 a.m. to noon prior to the service.
