Electricity in the Westbrook Community Center is back on after the basement underneath the Davan indoor pool was under 5 feet of water Monday morning.
The Westbrook Fire Department was on scene early this morning, turning the water and electricity off in the building. Crews then began pumping water out of the basement.
Fire Chief Andrew Turcotte said the flooding appeared to be caused by an internal water line break in the basement, but he said the department was still in the process of determining where the break occurred.
Community Center director Maria Dorn said Monday morning that the center had a backup plan for after-school programs if needed, but as of 12:30 p.m., water and electricity was back on.
The Westbrook Community Center announced the issue via its Facebook page:
“Due to a mechanical issue at the Davan Indoor Pool, the Westbrook Community Center may be without water and power for the next few hours. All pool programs have been CANCELLED for today, Monday, May 18. We’ll keep you posted regarding any additional cancellations.”
