SANFORD — Lee Soule Hammond died peacefully May 4, 2015 after a long, courageous battle with cancer.

She was feisty and determined to fight her disease with a positive attitude. She lived life to the fullest until the very end.

Lee was born in Lewiston on Jan. 25, 1941 to Everett and Ellen Ray. She graduated from Lewiston High School and the University of Maine in Portland.

Lee wore many hats in her life. She was a medical secretary, waitress, motel manager and owner of Seafood Shanty in Sanford for many years. Then, she and her husband, Ira, started Imaginations Bakery in Wells, where they served delicious cakes and pastries to the community. This was her pride and joy, and Lee was loved by many for her care-free personality and baking skills.

Upon retiring, she moved to Florida, then to Oregon to be near her son. There, she started a new career working for Sunset Bingo and eventually returned to Maine in 2011 and resided in Kennebunk.

Lee is survived by: her loving and devoted husband, Ira Hammond; her son, Christopher Soule; two sisters, Linda Nadeau of Poland, and Beth Lacasse Ayotte of Lebanon; a brother, Everett Ray of Lake Wale, Florida; along with many nieces, nephews, and close friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Christopher Soule, 11 Pioneer St., Sanford, ME 04073 for final expenses.

Lee requested no formal services, but remembrance of her life, love of baking, and friendly personality.
