The L.C. Bates Museum in Hinckley is featuring a new exhibition, “Seasonal Scenes: The Beauty of Rural Maine,” through Sept. 10.
The show will feature a variety of works including oil landscapes by Lois Dodd and Matt Russ and photographs by Shoshannah White. Visitors will experience a broad perspective of how artists view and portray nature.
In a news release, Russ said, “Direct observation is the key to my work. As a landscape painter, this means working outdoors in all seasons and in any weather.”
Kristin Malin highlights the changing seasons in her artwork: “The immediacy of painting from nature, its elements changing with time, is an effort to capture the dynamics of fleeting moments,” she said.
Dodd explores the harmonious relationship between nature and human development.
The show is a joint effort by the L.C. Bates staff and two Colby College students, Sophia Ozburn and Leah Bilodeau, under the supervision of Prof. Véronique Plesch. The exhibition is made possible through support from the Maine Community Foundation Arts Expansion Fund.
