DAYTON — Edward L. Bedard, 85, of Dayton, died Thursday, May 7, 2015 at Gosnell Hospice House in Scarborough after a long illness.
He was born in Arundel on Sept. 25, 1929, the son of Emile and Odelle Flamand Bedard, and was educated in Arundel and Kennebunk schools.
On Dec. 1, 1951 he married Fernande Valliere. She died on May 12, 1990.
As a young man, Eddie worked as a construction truck driver. He later owned and operated Eddie’s Taxi in the 1950s. He then owned and operated new and used furniture at Century Trade. He worked as a licensed auctioneer for several years. In the 1970s, he served as a York County Deputy Sheriff and was also a volunteer fireman for the Goodwins Mills Fire Department in the 1980s and 1990s.
Eddie enjoyed professional football and boxing.
He is preceded in death by: seven brothers and sisters.
He is survived by: two sons, Ronald Bedard and his wife Dolores of Dayton, and Shawn Bedard and his wife Marie of Dayton; a daughter, Pearl Hall of Lyman; a brother, Leo Paul Bedard of Biddeford; three sisters, Violet Thivierge of Biddeford, Yvette Chasse of Arundel, and Janet Hanson of Saco; a grandson, Jason Bedard; three granddaughters, Tania Hall, Crystal Hall, and Christina Hayward; and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews
Visiting hours will be 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Monday, May 11 at Hope Memorial Chapel 480 Elm St., Biddeford, ME 04005.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 12 at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Biddeford.
