Lee Cheever will be exhibiting at the Summer Island Studio for the month of May. The show, titled “In the Woods,” will feature her storytelling and often humorous expressions in wood in wall pieces and freestanding sculptures
Lee Cheever is a multifaceted artist living in Harpswell. A public school teacher for many years, she now has a studio in Brunswick and is an active volunteer in the creative community.
Cheever’s drawings, sculpture, photographs and paintings reflect both her knowledge of the fundamentals of art and design and her creative human spirit. An avid traveler, she brings a wide range of history and culture to her work.
Cheever has participated at a number of juried and invitation shows in the area and is also known for her drawings and photographs. The Summer Island Studio show will be one of the few shows chosen to exhibit her work in 2015 as she continues to pursue and develop her interests and skills.
“I see stories everywhere,” Cheever said. “It may be the stories of history one encounters in traveling, or a chance encounter with an animal in the woods. The world has stories to tell. This translates into my work in suggesting an encounter. What the viewer takes from the piece is personal and varied.
“My work is meant to fit into homes without fanfare. There is no spectacular spot needed. If it speaks to you in a gallery show it will continue to do so in your own home for years to come. Share the works’ stories with the people you make stories with.”
