BIDDEFORD — Donald A. Cantara, 63, of Biddeford, a loving and caring husband and father, died Saturday, May 2, 2015 at Gosnell Hospice House in Scarborough after a brief illness with cancer.
He was born in Biddeford on Oct. 13, 1951, the son of Charles E. and Simonne B. Vaillancourt Cantara. He was educated in Biddeford schools, graduating from Biddeford High School with the class of 1970, and graduated from SMVTI in South Portland.
On Nov. 16, 1974, he married Diane L. Perron in St. Joseph’s Church.
Don served six years with the Maine National Guard. He worked nine years with E.R. Warren in Kennebunk and 34 years with Honeywell Inc. in Westbrook.
He was a 3rd degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 12941 in Biddeford, a member of the Oldies Group that raised money for the Ronald McDonald House and a member of the Biddeford 50 Plus Club. He was a trustee of the Westbrook Skating Rink in Biddeford.
He was a jack of all trades and a master of them all. He enjoyed woodworking, nature, spending summers at Buganut Lake and time with his girls, especially with their school activities.
He is survived by: his wife of 40 years, Diane L. Cantara of Biddeford; two daughters, Hillary D. Cantara of Biddeford, and Jennifer L. Cantara and her partner Robert Berwick of Saco; and his mother: Simonne B. Cantara of Biddeford.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 8 at 10 a.m. at Hope Memorial Chapel, 480 Elm St., Biddeford, ME 04005. Interment will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Biddeford at a later date.
