Edited and introduced by Wesley McNair, Maine poet laureate.
Today’s poet, Marnie Reed Crowell of Deer Isle, welcomes spring with three brief poems about birds.
By Marnie Reed Crowell
Peek
Between the twigs
a warbler sings
morning air
aglow with aria
and all I see
is a tiny eye.
haiku by sparrow
Pale sun, old snow
white-throated sparrow
cold pure call of spring
call of spring
Spotted Sandpiper
Just at the silver seam
between the sea and shore
spotted sandpiper
teeters, speaks softly to itself
a poem it has by heart.
