AUGUSTA — An Augusta man was charged with burglarizing six businesses as part of what police say is a regionwide series of about 30 break-ins.

Michael Joseph Gagne, 38, of Augusta was charged with those March and April burglaries on Thursday, Deputy Chief Jared Mills of the Augusta Police Department said in a Friday news release. He was arrested on a probation hold on Tuesday as the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office and police in Augusta, Winthrop and Monmouth were executing search warrants related to the 30 burglaries they say are connected.

Gagne is charged with robbing the following businesses:

• Twins County Store on North Belfast Avenue on March 26 and April 27;

• The Red Barn on Riverside Drive on April 8;

• C&S Market on Riverside Drive on April 8;

• Capilos School of Hair on Bridge Street on April 13;

• Sam’s Italian Restaurant on Civic Center Drive on April 23; and

• Denny’s restaurant on Civic Center Drive on April 19 and 20.

Mills has said that police have identified other suspects and he said on Friday that he expects charging other people involved in the burglary ring.
