BATH — Richard “Dick” Alfred Homan, 79, of Barque Road, died Saturday, April 18, 2015, at home surrounded by his family.

He was born in Bath on June 17, 1935, a son of Jesse W. and Sara L. (Wheatly) Homan.

Dick attended Bath schools and graduated from Morse High School in the class of 1953. He entered the Sheet Metal Apprentice program at Bath Iron Works, only to be interrupted by a draft notice. Rather than take the draft, he joined the United States Coast Guard and was stationed on a buoy tender along the Maine coast. He also spent a year stationed on a LORAN Station in Alaska. Upon discharge from the Coast Guard, he reentered the employ of Bath Iron Works and completed the apprentice program. He worked in the Tin Shop for a number of years, later transferring to the Hull Drawing Room. He retired after a total of 41 years of employment.

In 1960, he married the former Loretta Barter of West Bath. They resided in Bath where they raised their two children.

Dick was an avid outdoorsman. He was a lifelong member of the Sagadahoc Rod Gun and Skeet Club, holding the position of treasurer for a number of years. He won numerous trophies with his skeet shooting skills. He enjoyed spending time in his boat on the Kennebec River and numerous lakes in Maine. His favorite times were spent hunting and fishing with his family and friends.

He enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a devoted husband and parent, loving his family. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Loretta Homan of Bath, his son, Brian Homan and his wife Kathleen of Bath, his daughter, Gwen Palicte and her husband Mike of West Bath, grandchildren, Kaley and Samuel Palicte of West Bath, Nicholas and Matthew Homan of Bath, sisters, Jane Peabody and her husband Ron of Bremen and Barbara Pfieffer of MA and a large extended family of sister and brother-in-laws, nieces and nephews.

A visiting hour will be held from noon to 1 p.m. on Friday, April 24, 2015, at Daigle Funeral Home, 819 High St., Bath. A funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. A gathering of family and friends will follow at the family residence, 6 Barque Road. Burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery in Bath at a later date.
