Library trustees remember Broaddus
Two Walker Memorial Library trustees, Marian Peterson and Fran Fritzsche Jensen, recently remembered a longtime volunteer and past trustee Marion Libby Broaddus, who died in February.
Peterson and Jensen donated $100 to the library in memory of Broaddus.
“Marion was well loved at the library, and her contagious smile warmed all of those who knew her,” Kelly Day, vice president of Walker Memorial Library Friends, said in a statement.
Day quoted Walker Memorial Library curator Julie Peterson and meeting minutes, “Marion Broaddus was introduced as a new trustee at the meeting on May 20,1981. She retired from the board on Sept. 1, 2006.”
Broaddus was on the library’s board when the library addition was built. “She was an avid reader, traveler, dedicated to her church, Westbrook Warren Congregational, and proud of her family and their accomplishments,” Day said. “Even into her early 90s she would be seen walking to the library and the church with her quick step and upright posture.”
Broaddus died on Feb. 19 at age of 95. The trustees honored Broaddus for her years of service and dedication to the library.

Firefighters from Westbrook Fire Department’s Shift 2 at the Prides Corner Station performed a “wet down” ceremony Monday before housing the department’s new Engine 3 for the first time. According to Lt. Mark Theriault, the ceremony is an old fire service tradition dating back to the days of horse drawn fire engines. Firemen would wash down the horses and engine before they went back into the station. The horses were unhitched and the engine was pushed into the station by the firemen. Courtesy photos
