Pirates’ winger honored for community service
Right wing Jordan Szwarz was named the Portland Pirates’ IOA/American Specialty Man of the Year by the team’s coaches and staff.
Szwarz is also a finalist for the IOA/American Specialty AHL Man of the Year Award for which the Yanick Dupre Award is presented.
The award honors the memory of the late Yanick Dupre, a Hershey Bear and short-time Philadelphia Flyer noted for community service.
Szwarz has visited the Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital, schools in Greater Portland and an animal shelter, and has participated in offseason meet-and-greets and skates with fans.
NCAA: Boston University forward Jack Eichel, North Dakota goalie Zane McIntyre and Harvard forward Jimmy Vesey were selected as the three finalists for the Hobey Baker award, for the best player in college hockey.
The winner will be revealed April 10 in Boston, the site of the NCAA Frozen Four.
BOXING
WELTERWEIGHT: The Floyd Mayweather Jr.-Manny Pacquiao fight, meeting expectations that it will be the most expensive pay-per-view broadcast ever, has been priced at $89.95.
DirecTV, Time-Warner and AT&T U-Verse may charge extra for a high-definition signal, usually around $10.
The May 2 bout in Las Vegas will be broadcast by both Showtime and HBO.
FOOTBALL
NFL: Center Gino Gradkowski passed his physical, completing his trade from Baltimore, and veteran defensive lineman Antonio Smith signed a one-year, $2 million deal with Denver.
• Linebacker Rolando McClain signed a one-year contract with Dallas after a solid season with Oakland in 2014.
• Free-agent linebacker Spencer Paysinger signed with Miami after four years with the New York Giants.
• Atlanta waived safety Zeke Motta, who missed 2014 with a neck injury.
GOLF
LPGA: Lydia Ko tied Annika Sorenstam’s LPGA Tour record with her 29th consecutive round under par, shooting a 1-under 71 in the ANA Inspiration at Rancho Mirage, California.
PGA: Scott Piercy tied a tourney record with a 9-under-par 63 to take a one-stroke lead after the first round of the Houston Open.
Alex Cejka made four birdies on his back nine – the course’s front nine – to finish with a 64, one stroke behind Piercy.
FIGURE SKATING
WORLD TEAM TROPHY: Gracie Gold, Ashley Wagner, Max Aaron and Jason Brown will lead the U.S. at this month’s World Team Trophy in Tokyo.
U.S. Figure Skating announced in Colorado Springs, Colorado, the lineup for the April 16-19 competition.
Alexa Scimeca and Chris Knierim will skate pairs. The ice dancers are Madison Chock and Evan Bates.

INDIANAPOLIS 500: Andretti Autosport has found its fifth and likely final entry with the addition of Simona de Silvestro to the lineup.
TENNIS
MIAMI OPEN: John Isner rolled past fourth-seeded Kei Nishikori 6-4, 6-3 to reach the semifinals – becoming the first American man to go that deep in the draw at Key Biscayne since Mardy Fish in 2011.
Earlier, Carla Suarez Navarro advanced to the women’s final after topping Andrea Petkovic, 6-3, 6-3.
