As a senator from a coal-producing state (Kentucky), Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has reportedly written to every state governor in an effort to block U.S. Environmental Protection Agency regulations requiring states to reduce carbon pollution from coal-fired power plants.

We in Maine, and also the rest of the Northeast, have long suffered the ill effects of acid rain produced by Midwest coal. Now is not the time to reverse the progress made in improving our environment.

How have Gov. LePage and Sens. Susan Collins and Angus King responded to Sen. McConnell’s campaign? I would urge all three to come out strongly in opposition.
