I believe there should be no term limits at either the state or federal level, under the following conditions:
• Politicians should not be eligible for government retirement programs. They can contribute to an individual retirement account, just like any other citizen, but there should be no government-sponsored retirement.
• At the state level, politicians’ pay should be based on the income of the average Maine citizen, and figured based on days of actual service. At the federal level, the same rules would apply, except their pay is figured based on the income of the average American citizen.
In my opinion, this would reduce the number of career politicians.
